Maininta RUMBASSA

Dynamon keikka, jossa The BellRaysia lämmiteltiin, kirvoitti Rumba-lehden journalistin, Kiira Kolehmaisen, kirjoittamaan 7.5.2011 muutaman osuvan rivin myös Rocket Motorsista.

Kymmenen jälkeen Dynamossa oli vielä hyvinkin väljää. Naapuripitäjästä paikalle surffanneen Rocket Motorsin saatua muutaman biisin mittaisen etumatkan alkoi lattialla sentään olla jo tiiviimpää. Instrumentaalisen boogien ja surfrockin puolesta liputtava nelikko voitti hiljalleen yleisön puolelleen.

Hiuslaitteista ja rockabilly-univormuista päätellen paikalla oli myös kourallinen nimenomaan Rocket Motorsin vuoksi paikalle tulleita musiikinystäviä. Illan levyjen pyörittelystä vastannut Jalmari Helle kuului mutisevan, että bändi taitaa soittaa kaikki instrumentaalibiisit, jotka hän on levylaukkuunsa pakannut. Kaltaiselleni genreen tutustumattomallekin kuulijalle biiseihin lukeutui harvinaisen tuttua kauraa.

Mustiin Rocket Motors -kaarimerkeillä varustettuihin kauluspaitoihin pukeutuneen bändin taustalle olisi sopinut video, jossa kalkkarokäärme luikertelee paahtavalla aavikolla, kunnes joutuu pahaa-aavistamatta yksinäisen ratsastajan rusentamaksi. Seuraavassa otoksessa pölyinen Ford Mustang kiitäisi kuumuudesta väreilevää asfalttia pitkin Tarantinon leffasta karanneen kuskin poltellessa lungisti tupakkaa.

Rocket Motors soittaa Turun Dynamossa keskiviikkona 4.5.2011 lämmitellen The BellRaysia! Moottoreiden keikka alkaa klo 22.00 ja BellRaysin 22.45. Liput tapahtumaan maksavat 8 euroa. Sinne siis!

Kulmabaariin

Rocket Motors palaa satulaan taas uusin kujein. Nyt bändi soittaa Kulmabaarissa Turussa 16.4.2011 keikan. Paikan sijainti on vielä vähän epäselvä soittajillekin, mutta eiköhän se keikkailtaan mennessä selviä.

Finland’s Rocket Motors second release is a collection of instro tunes ranging in styles from rockabilly boogie to precise Euro driven surf.First track “Straight Cats” certainly leans towards the rockabilly side of things that their Myspace page claimed the band had in them.The genre wasn’t represented on their “Back To The Moon” album at all.The Locomotive train beat works well for the song.Next on the list is “Mothership Boogie”,a song that could have been a long lost Halibuts number,but we all know better don’t we? The song also has a Ventures “A Go-Go Dancer” vibe to it as well,great track.Country Down sounds just like you might imagine with a cool polka type beat,and swift reverb attacks that should get a crowd inclined to start dancing without doubt.The next song “Let’s Do The Jenkka” could be a reference to fellow countrymen Laika and the Cosmonauts “C’Mon Do The Laika” song I’m not sure,but I find the song to be a real picker upper.The guitar playing on this track is quit astounding,and fluid.Blueberry Pills starts off with a rapid fire pace then slows down a bit to let the listener catch his breath then it’s back to some more neck snapping speed,and the cycle repeats itself,this song is too fun. The last track on this EP is “Ready Jedi,Go!” has a devilish mix of traditional Euro flavor,with a healthy dose of Americana/Rockabilly to make ya scratch you head,and wonder if rock’n'roll is really derived from European standards.This theory my not bode well with others,but I have valid points if I really wanted to argue the subject.

Well back to more important issues.Rocket Motors are quickly becoming one of my favorite new instro bands not only because of the music they have produced so far,but because of the huge potenial for even greater things in their future.This band has talent,and the creativity to make me proud to be a instro freak that I am today.Be sure to spend your Christmas money buying some awesome music from the Rocket Motors.

What is it about Surf Instro bands from Finland that makes them so damn amazing? I mean think about it,The Mutants,The Hypnomen,Laika and the Cosmonauts,Husky and the Sandmen,The Lunatics,The Surftones,The Surfing Spacemen,The Charades,and now the utterly fantastic Rocket Motors.I was lucky enough to have Huge Waxer [lead guitarist] send me both Back To The Moon,and the new EP Clevergreens cd’s a few weeks back.I instantly fell in love with this band,maybe because they a times reminded me of their fellow countrymen Laika and the Cosmonauts.With Laika now defunct Rocket Motors have filled in their place.This version of “Back To The Moon” has been reproduced from the 2008 version.Personally I think they could have just left them in their original form,but overall nothing is really taken away from each song they have mainly just added effects,or samples before,and near the end of the track.In some ways it’s over doing it,but with some tracks I like the additions.If you never heard the original version you’ll be none the wiser.Opening track Taiganote is a upbeat psycho thruster that gets the blood pumping right off the bat.Marswalk is a mid-tempo escapade that will have you dancing in circles.Klaustrophobia Test conjures up film noir trance of confusion with little hope for a cure.Russian spy thriller Giant Leap 69 has a drive,and precision that makes all the right moves.My favorite track here is without a doubt Lost Transmission,this is the song that sealed the deal for me with this band.The sheer genius,and epic quality’s that this song evokes is jaw dropping.Someone needs to make a cool video for this song or I’m gonna scream!!!
Deck Party is a peppy little number that sounds more like a spaceship deck party,than a beach house deck party like the average listener might instantly think.Man High has some spaghetti western influence while still maintaining a traditional Finnish flare,and flavor.The last song Per Aspera Ad Astray is nothing more than a keyboard space capade.I strongly urge you to buy this CD like now dude.They are self released by the band so you will have to contact them at their myspace,or facebook pages for ordering.I promise you that your not likely go to be disappointed.
